In connection with this and slightly off-topic I have some questions
for the development team.
In the .log file the FT4 mode is expressed simply as 'FT4' but in the
.adi file it is '<mode:4>MFSK <submode:3>FT4 '.
The ADIF log follows the ADIF specification as discussed above in this
thread. There is no requirement to use ADIF nomenclature for a log file
specific to WSJT-X.
So one's log is in two places and it is easy to view and modify the
.log file in MS Excel but this is more tricky with the ADIF file. As I
seem to be obsessed with plotting dots on maps, from time to time I
find myself inserting missing grid squares in both files. Also I use
the .log file to reconstruct ADIF records for re-sending to LOTW, Club
Log and others in the event of network failure.
So :-
Which of these files is used for the Settings, Decode Highlighting
worked-before status ?
The ADIF log file wsjtx_log.adi .
Does Rescan ADIF Log make changes to the .log file ?
No, it read the file to populate in memory tables and indexes used for
highlighting CQ decodes. Many users export an ADIF log from their main
station logging application and use that as a substitute for the WSJT-X
ADIF log; that allows them to use QSO records from other modes and
applications for a more complete decode highlighting in WSJT-X. The
replaced ADIF log file can be read using this button without restarting
WSJT-X.
Is there any intention to deprecate the .log file ?
I doubt it, like yourself many users find in convenient for import into
a spreadsheet.
Also on-topic :-
Is there any intention to replace 'FT4' in the .log file with the full
MFSK string ?
Not that I am aware of.
Likewise is it possible that 'FT8' will be designated as an MFSK submode ?
It will be in the ADIF log file if the ADIF committee decide to make
that change, but I doubt they will make such a retrospective change as
it would have far reaching consequences.
Thanks for all the hard work, it's much appreciated.
