here are my comments per your request:
Some people like to exchange grids on HF bands and some people don't need them.  Those that want a grid may be frustrated by callers who don't provide one.

Umm, no. The message length of FTx messages is the same whether grid locator is

included in the message or not.


If you don't need the grid info then just simply ignore it!


The solution seems simple to me - If you want callers to reply to your CQ with a grid then include your grid in your CQ.   If you don't want the first reply to be a grid then don't include a grid in your CQ.

See above. I cannot see why this would be benificial.

Just send your grid and let the receiver to decide what to do ( or not  to do )  with it.
