Hey Folks,

Many will be aware that today the Australian ACMA (regulator) released changes
to legislative frameworks - the result is that immediately digital modes
(including the JT modes) are granted to Australian Foundation-level (F) Calls.

i.e. VK3FXXX <-- Now Valid for the F modes on the airwaves.

This will have developmental consequences as the prime "Call CQ" response works
with 13 characters i.e. CQ VK3SIR QF11 ... And many have already observed that
Australian F-Calls will not be able to send CQ with their maidenhead locator.

[ The ACMA I am advised will reissue Australian Foundation licensees with 3
letter prefixes beginning with Q (i.e. VK3QXX ) if operators request ]

I do not want to enter into merits or arguments as to whether this should or
should not have happened - the fact is that it has and that all Amateurs must
embrace this decision constructively - with developers working around impact. I
have already had to "growl" at a number of arrogant operators DEMANDING the
Locator when it is not easy for these operators to comply with software
constructed as it is.

I request for the sake of harmony (and AR longevity) that all in our community
welcome these new classes of (in many cases) rather excited operator. Please
stomp on the grubby arrogant few within our ranks that make life difficult for
new operators and new classes of operator. NEVER use the term "LID" as this is
demeaning and puts AR back 100 years !

Comradery and assistance will grow AR. Arrogance will lead to its death.
