Hi Reino,

Belt and suspenders - WSPR is the belt and would be the primary
tracking source providing, location and encoded in the power field altitude
in some transmsissions, and temperature in others; FT8 would be the
suspenders as a secondary mode and just provide a position using a four
character grid square to supplement the WSPR transmissions of provide fills
whenever they may not be any WSPR reports.

The basic premise is the use of crowd sourced reception reports by the
world wide users of FT8 and WSPR.

WSPR of course uploads reception reports to wsprnet.org. WSJT-X uploads FT8
reports to pskreporter.info but only for those CQ <CALL> <GIRD> messages -
as far as I know something like VE3GHM FN25 (without the CQ) would not get
uploaded by WSJT-X to pskreporter.info.

these pico balloon tracker are transmitting approximately 5mW at best. At
the moment I have a very simple beacon transmitting FT8 that hops around on
80/40/30 and 20m sending a CQ once a minute on each band at 5mW. The actual
transmit frequency within the FT8 sub band is randomized as well. All based
on an Arduiono UNO and a QRP Labs si5351a synthesizer. That 5mW does
surprisingly well for a pip squeak signal on very busy and active FT8
frequencies. This will show what other stations have copied my
transmissions over the past 24 hours:

https://pskreporter.info/pskmap.html?preset&callsign=ve3ghm&txrx=tx&mode=FT8&timerange=86400&hideunrec=1&blankifnone=1&hidepink=1&hidelight=1&showgrid=1&showsnr=1

Now, if WSJT-X uploaded reception spots for VE3GHM FN25 to pskreporter
then that would also make for a very simple solution. I think I tried that
but I may try it again just in case it does work.

cheers, Graham ve3gtc
