Thanks, all seems promising to me and I look forward to seeing it!
So far as I'm aware a mag loop, particularly on a lower HF band, could
well need retuning for a 3kHz change as might a heavily electrically
loaded antenna.
I knew loops were narrow, but that's narrow! But there'd be no need to
retune unless the existing bandplan allocation is widened. My initial
idea is to hop only within the existing ~3 kHz, and then only between
transmissions.
Within a band of (I think) 500 Hz, frequency agility is just
changing the tone produced by the computer software. More than
that, the transmit frequency is changed to keep the 2nd harmonic
below the presumed cutoff frequency of the SSB transmitter filter.
So small changed don't involve the radio at all, and changes per
*symbol* are possible for all users of some imagined future mode
which used this technique within the narrow bandwidth.
Wider spreads between transmissions should work on most current
configurations so long as the antenna is still "well enough"
tuned. My memory from running a Little Tarheel on 80M during the
California QSO Party is that it is really more of a preselector
rather than an antenna and needs to be retuned ever 5-10KHz or so.
