Hard to test all the corner cases like suffixes under what appear to be certain 
circumstances.
One of the problems I have with hamlib is I get no testing until WSJT-X or JTDX 
get released.
I have 264 rigs now to support and can't test but a few.
The git log isn't very helpful and since it's not easily reproducible a bisect 
isn't worthwhile.  valgrind shows nothing on Linux.

Mike,

I wonder if there were not-fully tested changes in the code before the 
2.5.3 release shortly after Bill's sudden passing?

Do you have access to the GIT repo? Perhaps something can be gleaned 
from looking at the 2.5.3 commits.
