Saku, split on WSJT-X means that WSJT-X can automatically adjust your
frequency so that your transmit audio is always somewhere within the
middle of the audio bandpass.

Hi Sam!
Split, what Google translate says, means "divide by parts". And that it
is when we are talking about split in Ham radio. I.E. Transmit on other
frequency as listen, just like Reino says.
When using sideband modulation (USB/LSB) the RF frequency is tied to
audio slot frequency. That is: dumped RF carrier +/- audio frequency
depending on sideband used. If we change audio slot we change RF
frequency that means we are using "split" in means what is in Ham radio.
Using the thoughtlessly named "split operation" of wsjt-x/settings/radio
has NO effect to RF frequency that is produced. It is always the same as
"split operation", when used, adjusts the ratio of RF carrier to audio
frequency to keep the produced RF frequency always the same while
centering the audio frequency in middle of AF filter passband.
Better would have been to call "settings/radio/split operation" as:
"Optimize audio passband": none, using 2 vfos, adjust 1 vfo
That would have been less confusing, just like Jim says.
But that was not the subject after all.
We were talking about the benefits of having randomized frequency on TX1
and TX6.
Reino states that using random TX could prevent neighbor station to
complete his DX qso. Well, I do not think so.
TX1 and TX6 jumping may disturb neighbor, but only one time. Next
transmit is again on different frequency. Unless the qso is established
and TX locked.
But that is life. It is not worse than losing DX because band polices
"trying to keep DX frequency clear" causing most qrm by them self.
And usually very close neighbors are using same period for TX when there
is no harm at all. That is the best benefit of FT8 DXing: keeping the TX
periods organized, mostly. There always are someones that think that
transmitting on other period than others could catch DX better.
Ok, now the original subject is splitting again. Best to QRT.
