an alternative, presuming that you are running a Linux box (or WSL under Windows) would be to establish a VM (virtual machine) under VirtualBox (offers a nice GUI for that.)

If you're not familiar with building Docker images (that's me!), then you will probably find VirtualBox much easier to establish a development environment in.

PS: VirtualBox also runs under Windows, of course. So many possibilities!
