No, I am using Omnirig with WJSTX configured to use OmniRig Rig #1. — Chris

Of course this can't work then. You must then select "OmniRig 1" in WSJT-X. And in the OmniRig Settings you have to select your IC-7300 as Rig type in RIG 1 and enter the correct data (COM Port, Baud rate, etc.). 73 de DG2YCB, Uwe ________________________________________ German Amateur Radio Station DG2YCB Dr. Uwe Risse eMail: dg2...@gmx.de<mailto:dg2...@gmx.de> Info: www.qrz.com/db/DG2YCB<http://www.qrz.com/db/DG2YCB> Am 22.07.2023 um 13:37 schrieb Christopher Wawak via wsjt-devel: TLDR: Thanks for opening your development community to me. I'd like to ask for help confirming whether my troubleshooting of this issue is correct, and if so, to submit a feature request for improving handling errors with the Windows sound subsystem. This seems to happen about once a year for me, and I've now hit the point that trying to figure this out is taking more time than trying to get it fixed would take! Summary: WSJTX 2.6.1 fails to initialize the ICOM 7300 with an incorrect error "Failed to start OmniRig COM server" when the underlying problem is with the Windows sound subsystem, leading to a loss of functionality and user confusion. Product: WSJTX 2.6.1 Hardware: ICOM 7300 OS: Windows 11 Version 10.0.22621 Impact: This bug causes WSJTX to fail initializing the ICOM 7300, rendering the application non-functional. The user is misled by an incorrect error message, causing frustration and unnecessary troubleshooting efforts. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Perform a fresh Windows 11 install. 2. Install OmniRig 1.20. 3. Install WSJTX 2.6.1. 4. Configure the ICOM 7300 Rig in WSJTX and OmniRig. 5. Exit WSJTX. 6. Trigger a condition that causes the Windows sound subsystem to re-enumerate the USB bus, leading to the audio device getting a new identification number, and thus appearing as "not found" in the WSJTX settings. Expected Result: WSJTX should still be able to initialize the radio, even if the sound devices are not found. WSJTX should give an error about the missing sound devices, rather than reporting a failure with the OmniRig COM server. Actual Result: WSJTX fails to initialize the rig, confusingly producing the error "Failed to start OmniRig COM server". Logs: Logs can be found here: https://pastebin.com/VmC74rDd Error messages of note: [SYSLOG][2023-07-19 16:07:39.264928][00:00:15.540760][warning] QAxBase::setControl: requested control {0839e8c6-ed30-4950-8087-966f970f0cae} could not be instantiated [RIGCTRL][2023-07-19 16:07:39.264928][00:00:15.540783][error] failed to start COM server [SYSLOG][2023-07-19 16:07:39.265921][00:00:15.541872][error] handle_transceiver_failure: reason: Failed to start OmniRig COM server Additional Notes: This issue does not affect other applications using OmniRig. This issue has occurred on many previous versions of WSJTX and on Windows 10 as well. My current workaround is to manually enter the settings screen and correct the sound settings.
