Justin, Why not use the Hamspots website. After you have created an account, which is free, just search for N5J. A number of blind Hams in the Groups.IO QLog Users Group are using the Hamspots to find where various DXpeditions are operating. Spots are sent to the Hamspots site by stations using JTAlert. Displayed on each line is the age of the spot, the spotter's call State and Country, the frequency in Kilohertz to two decimal places and the mode. The JAWS screen reader is used by most Q Log users to navigate the Hamspots website, although I believe that some are using NVDA. The QLog program that I mentioned is a fully voiced logging program interfaced with WSJT-X and runs under Windows, but could be run using a Windows emulator on a Mac. QLog is used worldwide by over 100 visually impaired Hams to work FT4 and FT8. Once it is started, your screen reader can be turned off as QLog is fully voiced.
Good luck in using Hamspots and let me know if you are interested in learning more about QLog and its support programs. 73, Rich - K1HTV www.qrz.com/db/k1htv ---- Subject: [wsjt-devel] WSJT Accessibility with VoiceOver on Mac OS? Hi there, I’m a fan of ft8, and I use it primarily though the built-in flex radio Smart SDR for Mac app, but I’d like to use WSJTX on the Mac, since it is the native application used for this protocol. Is there a way that I could work with some one around its accessibility? The app *mostly* works, with a few caveats. The first being is that the callsigns that are displayed in the waterfall are all over the place so when a blind person is using VoiceOver, trying to find a callsign that you’d like to work is a challenge, Is there a way to have this displayed in to some kind of workable table, or have the callsigns appear as links? Second, in the preferences > general, and preferences > radio dialogues, and others, some of the popups don’t provide the state of programatic focus to VoiceOver so it is hard to navigate through those popups when you are trying to setup a radio for instance, or making changes to your station setup. I understand the need to make WSJT cross-platform, but is there anyway this could be built using some native Apple applications? This would solve 99% of the Accessibility stuff that is going on between WSJT, and VoiceOver for blind hams using a Mac. THanks, Justin-ai5os
