Here's my comments on the RC7 User Guide and the "Help" menu items and
how they could be improved. Here "could" and "should" are only my
opinions. I am also sympathetic to the work required to compose or
revise the User Guide document.
1 Over time new users of WSJT-X (any version) have sought help on topics
which are easily available by clicking on the "Help" menu item in the
main screen menu bar. This is evident from the many requests for help
that could be avoided by adding some assistance after the installation
process. Perhaps at the bottom of the main window of WSJT-X there could
be available a large font "Notice" or a "HELP" control button as a
reminder to use the Help menu item that is already available once WSJT-X
is started up.
2 The Help submenu items should also list the online FT8 Operating Guide
by ZL2IFB. One has to go deep into section 6.3 to notice that URL. His
Guide was very helpful to me back when I started with FT8.
3 The latest User Guide is still displaying window images of WSJT-X
windows showing older version numbers displayed in the top of the
window. Some users might wonder why the User Guide's window shot is not
up to date with the release being used or just newly installed.
In addition some of the window shots are from MAC OS. Now, this detail
does not bother me.
4 A new user installing WSJT-X might not realize that the User Guide is
in the Share folder. Perhaps a Help menu item should so state.
