You think people that come to watir.com will switch to commerciall tool if
they see an add at watir.com?

What are the big costs we need money for?

No big costs. Paul is paying for the domain, you for the wordpress.com, Bret
is paying $20/month for watirbuild.com (not up at the moment).

I think it would be great if we had some money. We could for example pay for
your plane ticket and/or hotel the next time you come to AWTA. I have heard
that open source projects do that all the time. Or we could do the same for
Angrez or Sai, since I think their companies would not pay for the trip.

It would depend on the money raised, but it would be great if we could pay
somebody to work on the code one day a month/week (Bret, Charley, Jari...)
or to pay you or somebody else to work a few days on the documentation. What
if we raised enough money to pay somebody (or group of authors) to write a
book on Watir and then publish it under creative commons or something like
that?

I am not suggesting we should pay people all the time, but I guess being
paid just a bit would not hurt. I could be wrong. Strange things can happen
when money is involved. That is why I would like to have an open discussion.

> Even if we wanted to run ads on watir.com, we can't because we're using
wordpress.com. We would need to migrate the blog to our own host and then
pay hosting costs. It's a bit of a wasted effort in my honest opinion.

I have a shared hosting account and I have plenty of room there. I guess I
am not the only one that could do it, but I would be more than happy to host
watir.com on my account and do all the work, if we decide to move.

Same here. If you are against it, I would not force it. It was just an idea.
