Yo,

all ood here in Frankfurt, no flood, just sun shine, ultimate, happiness.
As expected much action today.

U20 women
Still in pool play (6/7) teams until tomorow. In pool X, unbeaten France and Russia meet tomorrow at 5:30 pm, that will be a real high light. GER got 3 losses in a row, but still has a good shot at the quarters, whereas SVK, ISR and probably NED will play for lower placements. GBR and FRA look very solid.
In pool Y, ITA is back, after only being the 3rd best european team, beating AUT to maintain their 4:0 wins record. FIN and CZE also will get to quarters, IRE and SUI battle out the lower placement.

U17 girls
Again, totally open. The newcomers SWE are struggling to match the established strong teams. GER lost to AUT 7:9 but then beat the before undefeated NED 9:8, putting these three teams to 3:1. GBR has a chance also to get to semis if they beat GER tomorrow, while AUT and FRA battle it out directly.

U17 open
2 pools of 5, all matches in these finished. Most improved: Belgium and the Netherlands; the latter finished as the lowest European team in Lecco, made it to 3rd place in the pool and thereby to pre-quarters on thursday, congratulations! The newcomers from BEL actually got 2d in their pool, so the two will meet in pre semis.
The other pre semi is ITA vs GBR, whereas SWE, IRE, ISR and AUT will play for lower placements, but can still have a shot at 5th place.
The pool winners, FRA and GER, meet in a "top 2" match tomorrow, with no relevance for the standings BUT the winner gets a real treat: they get to play their semi on the center court, with live streaming!

U20 open
1st round pools are finished, power and lower pools are under way to finish tomorrow am, them cross over (pre quarters) in the afternoon.
SUI beat CZE 16:11, who had several players out with stomach flu, to secure their spot in the power pool with GER, FRA and IRE, who beat FIN 14:12 in the decisive match. Undefeated GER and FRA meet at 9am thursday, this will be the repeat of the 2013 final.
No big surprises in pool B, with ITA and GBR going up, POL and SP down. Pool D, which was so open on day 1, finished with 2 safe victories of AUT over BEL and ISR ober NED, Thus ISR go up and carry over their win over AUT. But they could not quite make it against ITA, who won 10:7 and are undefeated. Will AUT have a chance against ITA at 11am tomorrow?

In the lower pools, POL and SWE are looking the strongest, but 2 more teams will advance to the pre quarters. FIN, SWE, BEL and NED are the hottest candidates. ESP and SVK are saving their energy for the next stage ;-)

The whether was fine today, hot and sunny. We already had the trading night with a surprisingly large turnout, considering that most jerseys are actually needed until saturday. Very positive is the low number of injuries thus far.

Tomorrow will have some changes. Many teams have only one match, so all will play on the 8 central fields, no shuttling. 1000 kids in one venue. And many teams have only one match, a very welcome "relax" day.
This is much needed, as the wheather forecast says: up to 40°C thursday and friday, and merciless sun shine. We did adapt the schedle, no matches will be played at all in the worst afternoon heat at 3:30. Instead, teams can even chill in the river which is right by the fields. OR in the VC ultimate tent, the ice cream vendor, coffee bar or other amenities and shades provided.

For me, this is my 7th Junior championship in a row. Next to Heilbronn 2010, it is also the smoothest event. Staff and TOC work well, and the support of the German federation president and the secretary general, who are permanently busy in the office, also helps a lot. SOTG is excellent, no major incidents, and this is not always the case. Great to see that SOTG and the level of play are both improving in parallel!

Again, do come to see this breathtakingly beautiful event if you can. there are just 2.5days left. On EYUC2015.eu, you find all infoschule and results and results as well as the live stream info.

Cheers,

Chris
