Ah-hah, two mysteries solved in one.

Short answer: we need a small modification in Setup.hs

It turns out I had previously complained about this.  Brian suggested
the change but it seemed to have no effect.  A while later, I reported
that wxHaskell was mysteriously working.  I think basically his fix did
work; I must have just been using the wrong wxHaskell.

So if you're having trouble on MacOS with this, try the patch above.
