Ah-hah, two mysteries solved in one. Short answer: we need a small modification in Setup.hs http://github.com/kowey/wxcore/commit/5832cec5618b74afc759a3fd7e4ad6318a324b4c It turns out I had previously complained about this. Brian suggested the change but it seemed to have no effect. A while later, I reported that wxHaskell was mysteriously working. I think basically his fix did work; I must have just been using the wrong wxHaskell.
