Yes indeed - once I knew that Debian's version of wxwidgets was too old.

Oh, I suppose I should mention the problems I had with that ...

Alien::WxWidgets couldn't download the necessary files.  It appeared not
to be using the web proxy, which I've got configured in CPAN::Config.
I only realised *after* downloading wxwidgets and building by hand that
I should have just set http_proxy in the environment, so I suppose that
doesn't really count as a bug ;-)

Indeed, and that's what we've done.  We have a repository of packages for
everything that we build from source or write ourselves.
