Hi,
My suggestions about the documentation is as follows:
- I like stuff to be in PDF's only with clear marking to which X10 version
the PDF applies to, because information/tutorials on web pages is subject to
changes and you never know which exact version the information/tutorial
applies to;
- the link for Linux on
http://x10-lang.org/documentation/getting-started.html points to
http://dist.codehaus.org/x10/documentation/install/linux-cl-install.html
which is really obsolete and need to be completely revised or removed; I
lost a lot of time in the beginning and would do better if I would go
straight to the INSTALL.txt provided in the X10 distribution;
- the environment variables PDF from
http://dist.codehaus.org/x10/documentation/languagespec/x10-env.pdf should
be revised ... sentences like this makes me quite nervous "This paragraph of
description is only a guess from the source code. It is not accurate at
all.";
- if you make links to external pages from official page, the links should
be periodically checked or marked as "unofficial documentation" or something
like this;
- The "X10RT Implementations" documentation web page is now much better, but
still need some tuning. The X10 language should be all about parallel
execution, so one would like to get as much as possible information about
communicating between places. InfiniBand is a widely used standard, so I
would really like to see a documentation or tutorial on how to get X10
working with PAMI.;
- in the "X10RT Implementations" documentation with "Augmenting a pre-built
X10 Release with the MPI version of X10RT" didn't work for me, however, when
I built X10 from sources with MPI support, thing worked ... it may be best
to completely remove this section and suggest users who want to use MPI RT
to build full X10 from sources with MPI support;
Kind regards, Marko Kobal

Hi Marko - thanks for the feedback. I've made several changes to the web
page that covers our runtime here:
http://x10-lang.org/documentation/getting-started/x10rt-implementations.html
Hopefully this is more clear and up to date. Can you tell me the other
documentation that you have been looking at (PDF's etc) that is also
obsolete or contradictory? We would like to keep these things up to date,
so feedback is always appreciated.
- Ben

Hi,
OK, good news. This kind of message should definitely be given on the X10
homepage and in the documentation. I should also mention that the
documentation for X10 is quite messed up; some pieces of information is
given on web page, some through PDF's, many times in contradictious way.
Someone should really put hands on the documentation and sort it out.
Kind regards, Marko Kobal

Hi Marco - The newer "sockets" implementation replaced the pgas_sockets
implementation, which is no longer supported.

Hi,
I would like to try the pgas_sockets X10RT Implementation as well. There is
very little documentation about it. I've found binaries at
http://dist.codehaus.org/x10/binaryReleases/2.2.0/ and unzipped
http://dist.codehaus.org/x10/binaryReleases/2.2.0/pgas-20110513-linux_x86_64
_g++4-sockets.tgz under my x10 installation. With the tgz there comes the
libxlpgas_sockets.a lib, but there is no libx10rt_pgas_sockets.so. What am I
missing here? Is there any detailed information about using pgas_sockets
X10RT Implementation available?
Kind regards, Marko Kobal
