I looked into this. Not sure it is possible for me (or us) to fix this. Might require access to Apple-only API parts. I agree that the window growbox needs to be removed for two reasons. One is so that it matches the look and feel of Lion (and newer OS versions). The second reason is more important, the growbox causes X11 graphical glitches.
