It looks like when Don did the D7 release, he included a few extra jars
that were on his system, such as FOP.
To make sure you all understand what a development release is, they are
dist builds done by the developers, without too much fanfare. The idea is
to release early and often, without making unsubstantiated claims that the
given build is stable. Hopefully, most developer builds will be
improvements over the previous build, but mistakes will happen.
As far as the reported bug about xalan-j_2_2_D8.tar.gz (
http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2887), I downloaded the
gz and untarred it with winzip, and all seems well. Could this have to do
with the path names that are too long? Are other folks seeing this
problem?

Hi,
Just out of curiosity, what's with the jump in file size?
xalan-j_2_2_D6.tar.gz 03-Jul-2001 11:17 7.3M Xalan-J downloads
xalan-j_2_2_D7.tar.gz 19-Jul-2001 10:42 10M Xalan-J downloads
xalan-j_2_2_D8.tar.gz 27-Jul-2001 22:21 7.5M Xalan-J downloads
I would have guessed that compressed vs. uncompressed
jars wouldn't make this much of a difference, since
gzip would perform similarly to the jar compression.
So what gives?
