Hello,

I'd like to propose that we put out a Xalan-Java 2.6.0 release
February 27.

It's been more than three months since we released Xalan-J 2.5.2. At
the time Xalan-J 2.5.2 was proposed, Santiago suggested that we follow it
with a release that would include the following features:

> 1. Dynamic support to resolve external Java calls (i.e. dynamic
>     alternative to xsltc:cast()).
> 2. Support for DOM and DOM fragments as parameters to a stylesheet.
> 3. URIResolvers and general mechanism to resolve relative URIs is not
> compatible with Xalan.

I understand from Santiago that Arun Yadav is working on the first two
items, and that Santiago has committed a patch for the third.

In addition, since 2.5.2 there have been a number of defects fixed,
and some new functionality added. These include the following:

- Bug fixes
    797, 5761, 14607, 19464, 23046, 24187, 24188, 24414, 24278,
    24423, 24518, 24695, 24958, 25442, 25449, 25924, 26169

Security patch for code in serializer and in translet class loading
    Public static constants made final
    Parameter optimization fixes
    Fix for format-number bug
Use of translet as whitespace filter where required
generate-id() bug (extra xml namespace node in DTM)
    Methods in XSLTVisitor made public

And probably many others to come.

- Eliminated use of "enum" as name to allow compilation under
  JDK 1.5

- Code to split namesArray into three for translet - improves
  translet initialization time

- Added a translet versioning mechanism

- Added a new TransformThread sample

- Caching of XMLReaders is now shared by XSLTC and Interpretive
  (in DTMManager)

- Changes that allow XSLTC to use other DTM implementations
- Some code now shared between Xalan-J Interpretive and XSLTC
     (stylesheetPIHandler and StopParseException)

- Conversions from reference types to double, string, boolean

- Removed ForwardPositionIterator and ForwardPositionExpr, which
  were no longer needed

- New versions of Xerces-J (2.6.0) and xml-commons
  (xml-commons-external-1.2.01)

In addition, I expect more defect fixes will be coming.

     Here's my +1.

Thanks,

Henry
