Usability is what's missing. This is my experience and your mileage may differ.

After literally years of trying I have never got "soundmodem" to work in either AX25 kernel or userspace mode.

AGWPE on the otherhand "just works" For those portable occasions such as WICEN exercises I have an OLD Toshiba lappy who's sole job is to run UIview with AGWPE. and I might add, thats about all it's capable of... BTW, runs HF packet just fine too.

I've been toying with the idea too... Not much in the linux world that has

In terms of what, handling hardware TNC's, or doing software-based
packet?

For the former, you can do multiple AX.25 KISS ports with the Linux
kernel.

For the latter, there's "soundmodem" and "hfmodem".

So... What's missing?
