I'm using a dual port PL2303-based adapter and the following driver with 10.6, Xastir built from CVS (sync'd about a month ago), and the OT+.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/osx-pl2303/

The Prolific folks apparently updated their "official" driver a few weeks ago for 10.6, but I haven't tried it.

I haven't played with a fresh OT+ in a while, but I seem to remember needing to initially configure it using the Windows application before it'd work with Xastir on any platform.

Matt,

I've tried the following:

/dev/tty.PL2303-00001124
/dev/tty.usbserial
/dev/cu.PL2303-00001124
/dev/cu.usbserial

I believe I am current with the drivers, too. However, I'm not sure the
drivers are current enough for 10.6? I thought I had some thoughtful
advice from the following site:

http://www.ciskoblog.com/2006/05/ (Entry is at the bottom of the page)

But no dice. I've gotten CoolTerm and it simply doesn't see any data
anywhere. The little light on top of the OT+ blinks green every now and
again, but nothing gets passed to the computer. I've adjusted the
radio's volume any number of ways and still don't seem to have any luck.

So, any recommendations for a good, Mac friendly USB to Serial cable?
This IOGear does not appear to work. I can't see that there is a
problem with Xastir or with the OT+ (other than maybe some stray RF
getting into it) by themselves, so this leaves the cable between them, yes?

Thanks for any help,
Chase

Did you use /dev/cu.* instead of /dev/tty.*? Using the latter gave
me a good troubleshooting headache a few weeks ago.

        Hi All,

I seem to have Xastir configured correctly (9600 8-N-1), and I
        have flashed
the OT+ to KISS. My trouble seems to be getting the two to
        speak to each
        other.

I've been using an IOGear USB to Serial adapter. I've loaded the
appropriate drivers, I think, and the Mac seems to recognize
        that there is a
        USB to serial device.

Does anyone have experience with this particular setup?
          Alternatively, what
are the rest of you Mac heads using with Xastir that gets you up
        and running
with APRS? I'm not very happy with the OT+ and would welcome
        suggestions
there(TNC-X?)- I think it gets some RF back into the device when
        I get it to
beacon (which I have to use UI view to get it to beacon) the HT
        and it locks
up- but that's partially my fault having it so close to the radio.

I feel like I am close to getting the thing to work, but I am
        missing some
simple setting somewhere which prevents the OT+ and Xastir from
        talking.
Any advice about this issue and/or hearing about other Mac
        users success
stories with Xastir would be most welcome.

        Thanks,
        Chase
