From my personal experience the Keyspan USB to serial devices work the best on 
Macs as a few other (cheaper) adapters don't always work on Mac's.

OS X doesn't do udev.

Fortunately an FTDI device on OS X is the sanest of all USB/RS232
devices and drivers on any operating system I've dealt with; the
device special file name is based on the unique serial number of the
device.  Doesn't matter when or where you plug it in, it's always the
same name.
