Ok, Tiger 2006 maps have gone away. I still have a copy of few of them around.
Cloudmade version of the shapefiles not longer can be had. What's a body to do along with this link on the Wiki? ftp://ftp2.census.gov/geo/tiger/TIGER2009/ Just unzip all the files helter-skelter and move them into /usr/local/share/xastir/maps/tiger2009? I've downloaded a couple of states but wonder how to proceed from there. There are a pile of files that are listed below the county folders. Are these important? (listing below) What I'm looking for is a data set that's comparable to the old Cloudmade shapefile maps. Is it possible? Yeah, I know one cannot cache and display OSM maps directly in Xastir. So be it, but what about some alternative offline strategies? Oh, I built a new install of Xastir-2.0.6 on Ubuntu 14.04 and I got support in for everything that's displayed at the ./configure summary including map caching.
