Some of us use apt on fedora and centos systems, too. Interestingly,
some of the apt repositories have different holdings than rpm/yum
repositories.

rpm is not generally used on Debian-based systems - they use apt instead.
You can use apg-get from the command line or Synaptic as a graphical front
end to apt. Development and Universe repositories are not enabled by
default and need to be enabled through Synaptic or by editing the
appropriate config file (can't remember exactly what its called as I
haven't run Debian here for ages...).
