Things are broken here beyond comprehension. From an Xastir standpoint  
I can see what is happening, but not why. Seems like Apple made some  
fundamental changes to X11 and in the process ruined things  
completely. The compile/make process is spitting out errors that "the  
--datarootdir setting" is being ignored. The result is that Xastir  
dies fatally with a "can not find the color file /xastir..." so it is  
clear that it is looking for a directory named "/xastir" which doesn't  
exist.
