If you are a user of the maps mentioned above and simply want to convert them into an open format read by many applications, you probably should get mpr2geotiff. Binaries are provided for Windows and Linux."
so, since xastir already supports geoTIFF, maybe using this tool to convert the existing data is the way to go?
