That last checks the stand-alone "curl", but doesn't check whether Xastir is compiled with and using libcurl. Does Xastir's Help->About say "libcurl" on the "Libraries used:" line? If not, did you install "libcurl-devel" or similar package before you compiled Xastir, or just "libcurl".
