I made these changes Jason and now it comes up just fine, every time.

I think lessons learned include;
Have no interface activate at startup (Curt)
Make sure fonts are set correct (Jason)
Seems like both would be pretty easy QC checks in software.

Those three don't look right. The "?" looks especially wrong.
Edit the config file with your favorite text editor, and try copying
one of the other lines (I'd use
-adobe-helvetica-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1) to the 3
suspicious entries.
