Kenwood D-700 radio hooked up to serial port on computer. Computer is an older
one with a Celeron processor and 64 MB of RAM, operating system is Fluxbuntu
7.10. Xastir 1.9.1 (?) was loaded onto computer from the Ubuntu archives. I
know everything on the computer works because just a week ago this was a
Windoze98 computer running UiView and the D700 without any issues.
Xastir boots fine. Works great on the internet. It says it opens the serial
port (/dev/ttyS0) and says everything is working fine. However the computer
will not talk to the radio and vice versa. I receive nothing from the radio and
when I hit the transmit now button in Xastir nothing happens at all.
All the permissions are wide open. rwxrwxrwx.
Dialouts are all ok. Groups are as well.
The .sys extensions are not on the d700 config like they were on my computer
earlier this week.
I have every indication that the serial port is working on this computer and
that the config on Xastir is set correctly. I have Xastir 1.7.? on an Ubuntu
computer and I compared one to the other. But nothing happens here.
I figured it was a serial port issue with Fluxbuntu so I hit the Fluxbuntu
folks up on this last night and they can't seem to find anything wrong with the
set up. According to what they are seeing everything should be working---
So what did I forget? What am I missing? Is there something missing from the
package that will not allow it to work?
