Fyi, I just recently did what you want to do on the home network. On the Linux computer, I installed x11vnc. On the Windows side, I used the tightvnc client. I also tried the realvnc client, but although it worked, it was slower. On x11vnc, be sure to start it on the command line with the "forever" option - otherwise you can only connect once.
