We could start by adding a “description” field (see this example: http://json-schema.org/examples.html) into the .json schema files themselves (https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema) copy-pasting text from the CSL spec appendix IV (http://citationstyles.org/downloads/specification.html#appendix-iv-variabl es).
