I'd really recommend this too. Using git in multiple branches is really
the best route forward. Changes that apply to both versions are very
easy to "cherry pick" to other branches. Doing this will likely take
less time than trying to code workarounds :)

While git may seem daunting at first, if you put aside an hour or two
and just get your head down and learn it, it will change your work flows
for the better. I've become far more efficient in various different
projects since learning and using git daily :)
