Anna, Joe and Others,

I've just returned from a lovely three days of x-c skiing in southern
Price and northern Lincoln Counties, WI. I can report the Timm's Hill,
Ice Age and Rib Lake trails are extensive, challenging, groomed for skate
and classic and are little used, perhaps because they are on privately
owned land and are maintained by local ski clubs.

This was my first wintertime taste of this off-the-beaten-track part of
our state, which lies about 20 miles west of Tomahawk- about 3 hours north
of Madison. The terrain is glaciated and pocked with small lakes,
recalling the Hayward area. Unlike Hayward, there is little development
and lots of solitude.

We stayed at a wonderful little resort about 5 miles East of Ogema, called
High Point Village. It's run by Kathy and Lyle Blomberg, whose weary
post-Birkie photo visages greet you at the front desk.

Indeed, these two know what serious skiers need and expect and they
deliver.

You ski from your cabin out across Bass Lake and onto the Timm's Hill
trails, some of which are lighted. Lyle and Kathy keep the nearest 12
miles of trail meticulously groomed. If you're up for it you can ski the
Ice Age trail, also groomed, the 9 miles south to Rib Lake, where another
15 or so miles of well-maintained trails await you.

There are two guest suites and four cozy cabins at High Point Village
(ranging from $65 to $125 per night), a hottub beneath the stars and the
great new Snowshoe Lodge, in which guests can cook communal meals and
socialize. This summer Lyle and Kathy are building two more cabins.

This is a great place for singles, couples, families and groups. Their
number is (715) 767-5287, their email adddress is [EMAIL PROTECTED]
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, and their webpage can be found at:

Ooooppps... I hope this doesn't make getting future bookings difficult!

Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far they
can go.
