CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL REPORT
Updated: February 9, 2001
CURRENT WEATHER: 6-8" new snow. Temps in 20s.
FORECAST: Temps dropping. Possibility of 2-4" or more of new snow in the Lake Superior snow belt. Temps Sat. high of 6/Sunday high of 16.
ABR TRAILS
Ironwood, MI
4" new snow 2/8. Conditions: Excellent. Groomed daily.
AFTERHOURS SKI TRAIL - Brule River State Forest
Brule, WI
The Brule River State Forest's Afterhours Ski Trail is in
excellent condition. 5 inches of very wet snow on 1/30 and
then another inch of dry snow on 2/1. The trail was rolled and flat dragged on 2/1. The whole trail was gone over and track was layed on 2/2. The base varies in thicknes from 8 to 18 inches.
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL
Cable/Seeley/Hayward, WI
The north half of the trail to the power line was groomed on the morning of Feb. 9. The south half will be groomed on the afternoon of Feb. 9.
Conditions: Excellent.
Note: The Pre-Birkie will take place on the southern half of the Birkie Trail on Saturday, Feb. 10 - from Lake Hayward to OO. The race starts
at 10:00AM. The trail is technically not closed, but will be very crowded with racers and skiing the southern half is not advised until later in the
afternoon. The northern half of the trail will be open on Saturday.
On Sunday, Feb. 11, the North End Classic will take place on the first 9km of the Birkie Trail from the Birkie Start Areasouth to Timber Trail
Road. The Birkie Trail will remain open, but be aware that there will be 100-200 classical skiers on this portion of the Birkie Trail between
10:00AM and Noon. The remainder of the new Kortelopet Race Course will also be used for this event.
ASHLAND SKI TRAIL

BALSAM BRANCH CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS

Groomed twice a week or after new snow.
BEAVER BROOK SKI TRAIL
Spooner, WI
Due to mechanical problems with the groomer, this trail will not be groomed until sometime later in the weekend.
Note: Due to erosion from logging, this ski area will have minimum grooming for classic skiing. Ski jouring, backcountry skiing and
snowshoeing are permited, but please respect the tracks.
BLUE HILLS TRAIL
Bruce, WI
The entire trail system was groomed Saturday, February 3, 2001.
Conditions were excellent today (Saturday, February 3) -- 15 degrees F,
flurries, a combination of sugar snow and packed powder -- great edge
control, great glide, lovely woods.
Extensive grooming is anticipated later Friday, 2/9, afternoon or night.

COPPER FALLS STATE PARK
Mellen, WI
Groomed on 2/1. Some trails closed due to fallen trees from windstorms earlier this year. Conditions: Good to Excellent .
DOUGLAS COUNTY SKI TRAIL

Groomed on 2.9. Conditions: Very Good.
DRUMMOND SKI TRAILS
Drummond, WI
All trails were groomed and tracked on Feb. 9. New snow accumulation totalled approximately four to five inches. Base depth and conditions are excellent and all tracks are new. Trees bent heavy with ice and snow have been trimmed back and prevent no hazard to skiing.

LADYSMITH HIGH SCHOOL LIGHTED XC TRAIL

The LHS trail was groomed on February 3. There was an additional 3/4 inch of snow the next morning that has been skied in. Conditions for skating and striding were very good to excellent on February 5. The lights are on from dusk to 10:00 p.m.

Groomed on 2/2 and scheduled to be groomed again on 2/9. Conditions: Very Good.
SPOONER CITY TRAIL
Due to mechanical problems with the groomer, this trail will not be groomed until sometime later in the weekend.
SUPERIOR MUNICIPAL FOREST

2/9- Trails tracked and groomed. All trails open. Conditions: Very Good.
TELEMARK SKI TRAILS

Note: Portions of the Telemark Trails, including the Birkie Loop, John Bauer, and Kortelopet Race Course will be used for the North End
Classic Race on Sunday, Feb. 11. All trails will remain open, however, but there will be temporary changes in the direction of flow of the trails.
The race starts at 10:00AM and most racers should be off the course between 12 and 1:00.
A shuttle service is available leaving Telemark at 11:00am. on Saturday morning, and arriving at 00 at 11:30. The driver waits until 11:45
before heading back up to Telemark.
TIMBERLAND HILLS SKI TRAILS

The Totagatic trail was groomed on Thurs., Feb 1 over crusted conditions. Trails are in good shape. The trail will be re-groomed Sat., Feb 3 if we get enough snow.

17km groomed for skating and striding with a hard base and firm tracks. Grooming is done on an as needed basis. As of 2/5/01 there has been a total snowfall of 205". Conditions: Excellent.
