CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL REPORT
February 23, 2001
CURRENT WEATHER: High near 19F. Low 14F. Snow beginning around 10PM. Possible accumulation of 4".
FORECAST
SATURDAY: High 28F+. Clearing. MAJOR snowstorm moving in Saturday evening. Additional 6-12" of new snow with some possible
mixed precip or wet snow.
SUNDAY: Snow continuing.
ABR TRAILS
Ironwood, MI
2/22 - Trails groomed this morning and again this evening. Conditions: Excellent.
AFTERHOURS SKI TRAIL - Brule River State Forest
Brule, WI
Trail conditions on the Brule River State Forest's Afterhours Ski Trail are excellent. The trail was groomed on 2/13 after receiving 5 inches of
fresh snow. The base depth varies from 10 to 20 inches. The whole trail is groomed for classical and skate skiing.
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL
Cable/Seeley/Hayward, WI
Trail conditions are excellent! We will continue grooming the trail all this week in preparation for the race on Saturday. As there will be equipment on the trail at various times all week we would like to remind you that there are many other very beautiful ski trails to try out in our area.
NOTE: The Birkie Trail will be closed beginning Wed., 2/21 at 5:00PM for race preparations.

BALSAM BRANCH CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAILS

BEAVER BROOK SKI TRAIL
Spooner, WI
Skied in. Should be regroomed by the weekend.
Note: Due to erosion from logging, this ski area will have minimum grooming for classic skiing. Ski jouring, backcountry skiing and snowshoeing are permited, but please respect the tracks.
BLUE HILLS TRAIL
Bruce, WI
The EastSideTrail skating lane was texturized on Monday, February 19, providing excellent conditions. The striding track remains well-set.
During the past week, grooming of most of the EastSideTrail (segments that correspond to the race course) was performed Monday evening February 12. The WestSideTrail was groomed the next evening (February 13). To fine-tune the skating surface and striding lane for the weekend, the EastSideTrail (all but section 1-to-2) was groomed again Friday, February 16.

COPPER FALLS STATE PARK

Groomed on 2/13 after about 5" of new snow. Some trails closed due to fallen trees from windstorms earlier this year. Conditions: Good to Excellent .

The Drummond trail base was renovated and consolidated on 2/19 and new trackswere set. They are in excellent shape for the Birkie weekend.

SISTER'S FARM TRAILS
The east side trails were groomed for dual technique on the morning of February 10. Conditions were excellent for striding and somewhat narrow but good for skating. The west side trails were groomed for striding only between rounds of the Wednesday-Friday storm. There wereabout 2 inches of skied-in snow in the tracks and some drifting in open areas. Overall, very good conditions on this portion of the trail.
About 2" of new snow that has been skied in.

TELEMARK SKI TRAILS

2/21 - XC trails open: 16 - Total kilometers: 58 - New snow: 5" Packed base: 12" 16" - Trackset: 58 K - kate groomed: 46K. Trail surface conditions: Solid, excellent throughout.
.A shuttle service is available leaving Telemark at 11:00am. on Saturday morning, and arriving at 00 at 11:30. The driver waits until 11:45
before heading back up to Telemark.
