Thanks: Scott for the info, Carl for the grooming and MadNorSki for
providing this information service.
I got to Blue Mounds early on Saturday and it was great skating, a little
hard and icy at first but really improved as the temps rose; really great
between 8:45 and 10 a.m. or so; started to get a little too soft and slow
after that. Went for about 75 minutes early this a.m. and it was extremely
fast and icy in certain areas. You definitely needed to take things a
little cautiously on the Ridge Trail downhills. However, I suspect it will
be very good again after it warms enough to do a light re-grooming. Two
beautiful Red Tail Hawks observed sitting in trees trailside and soaring
next to and above the short trail section across the road from the main
trail sections. (I think that section is called Pleasure Prairie or
something close.)

Subject: [XC] what a difference a week makes...
A week ago today, the temperature up in Hayward was -12 F
in the morning (and they struggled up to a high of +22 F).
Today, it's +45 F in Hayward. Spring skiing has arrived on the
Birkie Trail!
I hear that Karl groomed Blue Mounds yesterday and chewed up the
crusty stuff. Not enough snow there to set classical tracks...
so skaters, Go Nuts at Blue Mounds!
