Our old friend Penni Klein advises that an important meeting is coming up
that will affect the future of Cross-Country Skiing in Middleton:

Monday, January 21
7:00 p.m.
City Hall
7426 Hubbard Ave.
Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Commission Meeting

The Commission will discuss Middleton's Open Space Plan, so they will be
taking a look at the use of all of Middleton's publicly-owned recreational
lands. That includes the Pleasant View Golf Course, the Pheasant Branch
Conservancy, and the 150 acres the City owns at its landfill and dog park on
Highway Q.

Penni was the Superintendent at Gov. Nelson and is now Middleton's Public
Lands Manager. She has been a great friend to skiers over the years and is
enthusiastic about the possibilities for XC in Middleton. She says she's
already gotten money into the budget for grooming in '03! She thinks they
probably won't want to groom in Pheasant Branch, but will allow skiing
there. She is optimistic about the possibility of grooming Pleasant View
(and perhaps the landfill site?). If we could get Pleasant View groomed, it
might help take some of the pressure off Elver. Maybe you could even drop
off your compost before doing hill repeats on the landfill. Middleton
skiers are especially encouraged to turn out and show your support for our
sport.

For more information, contact Penni at 827-1044. Thanks!
