TRAIL CONDITIONS


Updated: January 18, 2002


GENERAL CONDITIONS: Temperatures high in the mid teens this weekend. Chances of snow Sat. afternoon and Sunday.

Generally good base depths for skating and good tracks in some areas.

ABR TRAILS
Ironwood, MI
6-12" base. 6 inches new snow this week. All trails groomed daily. Conditions Excellent Plus.

AFTERHOURS CROSS COUNTRY SKI TRAIL/BRULE RIVER STATE FOREST
Brule, WI
The trail has received several inches of new snow over a solid base. Conditions are "fair to good". Track is set on Oak Trail and by the weekend we hope to have enough snow to track the rest of the trails.
 
AMERICAN BIRKEBEINER TRAIL
Rolled on 1/15 after about 2 inches of new snow. Base - about 4" Tracks being set on 1/18 for the Seeley Classic. Skating very good.

ASHLAND SKI TRAIL

Rolled and open for skiing.

BLUE HILLS TRAIL

Conditions were fair to good to very good on (January 17) skiing on packed powder with temperatures near 15 degrees F. With this week's 3-1/2 inch snowfall, many trail sections offer enough cover to provide surprisingly good skiing. Bring your rock skis and expect to find many trail sections in great shape, and scattered areas with easily avoidable rocks and dirt spots.T he WestSideTrail and most of the EastSideTrail were rolled for skating January 16 -- not quite enough snow to set a striding track

The Boulevard including the North Country Loop and the Racetrack were groomed and tracked on 1/16. All other loops were left alone. Conditions on the groomed trails are fair to poor. The base varies but averages two inches.

About 1" of new snow on top of 1-3" icy base... fair to poor conditions with good coverage in the hardwoods and only a few rocks showing... Avoid the rocky eskers and stay on the main trails... tracks skied in between trail heads...Not enough snow yet to level base, so there are rough sections. Use caution on Bridge as ramp is bare...about 90% of the trail is open.

TELEMARK SKI TRAILS

53 KM of the Telemark/North End/Kortelopet 65 KM trail system have been groomed for skating. This includes the Birkebeiner Loops, Tony Wise Trail, John Bauer Trail (to Kortelopet split), Kortelopet Trail (rolled from start to 9 KM), Berard Connection, North End Trail, Bill Koch Trail, Sven Wiik, Caldwell and Marty Hall World Cup trails. Classical tracks have been set on the Birkie Loops, Tony Wise Trail, World Cup Sven Wiik and Caldwell Trail and the Kortelopet Trail from 9 KM to 23 KM. Tracks are thin in a few sections but very good in most sections. Over four inches of snow has fallen since Sunday. The trails are in good to very good condition.

TIMBERLAND HILLS SKI TRAILS
Cumberland, WI
The Lighted Trail has been packed and tracked. The Outer Loop and Short Loop have been packed, and the rest of the system should soon be packed and possibly tracked. Skiing isn't bad

TIMM'S HILL/HIGHPOINT SKI TRAILS

Good; groomed and tracked Jan. 14 & 17; lighted night skiing is available on Wednesday and Saturday or for groups upon request.
