I was assuming a 45k race as well (and actually hoping for just a 25k
race) until Friday afternoon when a friend informed me that it was
46.5k. He got that distance from one of the Birkie foundation folks.
Note that distance was still off by 0.2k. I didn't bonk but I was
pretty wiped out by the finish (yet I somehow managed to set a new
personal best by over 1 hour!). All my "hardcore" skiing buddies
(i.e. friends that actually "train" for the Birkie and all in waves
ahead of me) wanted to know what drugs I was taking since I beat most
of them... I told them I'm going to write a new book explaining my
ski training theory - don't train much and hope for really warm
weather at the Birkie (seems to work for me).

Cheers,

Craig

P.S. I assume the Birkie Foundation knew several days in advance how
long the race would be since they presumably had to move the finish
line cabins into place...
