BIG NEW FROM OUT EAST

Former MadNorSki Junior (now skiing for Northern Michigan Univ.) Ben Cline was 13th overall in the Men's Sprint event at Senior Nationals in Rumford, Maine yesterday!

The Sprint is a 1.0 kilometer event. This competition includes America's best skiers of all ages. Ben was one of the 16th fastest in the preliminary heats and thereby made it to the quarterfinals. Just that is an honor! However, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Ben's goal was to close in on one of the 6 male berths on the Junior Worlds team going to Italy this year. He was oh -so-close. The fellow who finished 12th in the sprint was also a junior (Steve Scott). Scott raced just this one race and did well enough to be chosen as the team's sprint specialist.

All but one of the 6 chosen are a year older than Ben and in their last year as Juniors (ages 20-29 are considered Seniors).

Lorie Wesolek is have a fine week in Maine too. She is on a 4-year training plan and did exactly what she set out to do, close in on the competition. Had she been a minute faster in the freestyle event, she would have been Top 10 in the U.S. I think she can do it in the coming years. Lets encourage her.
