Classical and skate skiing was excellent @ Iola this past weekend; two hours closer than ABR, but not Dane county.

Lake Mendota

I skated the two 4k loops, with my rock skis, for skating at Mirror Lake State Park on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (the trails on the southwest side of the park, I believe they are called the Dell Rd and Turtle something loops). Some grass was sticking up but no visible dirt or rocks. The classical tracks on the rest of the trails were good where I skiied.

Well, conditions look a little sketchy for skating. UNfortunately, most of
the previous snow melted on the lakes, and so, there is no base to hold the
fresh snow. My feet kept sliding out on me when imitating the skating
motion. You may have more luck striding,--- or just eating pizza and
drinking beer, or better yet-- a trail run and pizza and beer...

Can anyone suggest local lakes to ski on?

Eric
