We have allowed our AIX customers to use rsh/rcp for remote commands in
lieu of ssh/scp in past releases by setting the site table useSSHonAIX to
no. The default is yes. Although we will not change code that checks
this setting such as setting up rsh on the nodes instead of ssh, we will
not be testing this environment. This primarily affects the use of
xdsh/xdcp and xCAT commands like updatenode that use xdsh/xdcp. the p*
commands do not support rsh.
rsh has some serious security risks which you can read about on the web.
If using rsh with xCAT, please plan to change to using ssh. It should be
as easy as changing the site variable and running updatenode <noderange> -k
to your nodes. Of course you will have to make sure openssh and openssl
are installed on your AIX nodes.
Thanks!
