I now see why my example wouldn't work based on the latest info you provided,
would have to add the GigabitEthernet in front. So in your case I would expect
"GigabitEthernet 1/24" to work. If you tried that then:

Another thing to look at is snmp settings. For example some switches have these
settings enabled by default and others don't.
snmp-server community public ro
snmp-server community private rw

I have had to set something like the above on particular switches, whereas
others are already default.
This might be too obvious but I will say it anyway. Make sure the ports are
enabled (no shutdown).
And the switch is defined in groups and hosts
lsdef < node> to make sure it is defined to the switch and the port correctly

And I don't know anything about macmap.pm, can't answer that question

Regards,

Tom

Subject: [xcat-user] Dell Force 10 discovery problems

Thank you, Jarrod and Thomas

   Thomas, I have tried adding

 "my node", "my switch","1/X",,,,

   That does not work... What is interesting is that on the
Dell Switches where the ifName comes back as GigabitEthernet 0/X it
works in our production environment when we put in

"my node", "my switch","GigabitEthernet 0/X",,,,

  On the new switches which do NOT work we have this from snmpwalk :

IF-MIB::ifName.2100099 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 1/24

  On the old switches which DO work we have from snmpwalk:

IF-MIB::ifName.44876802 = STRING: GigabitEthernet 0/42

  Now of course I am assuming that this is all that has changed. Jarrod, I hope
that
answers your question as to what ifName reports on the old vs new. Also, I have
snmpwalked all of the OIDs listed in MacMap.pm. They seem to work the same on
old vs new dell switches...

  Thomas, does that mean I have to mess around with the namesmatch function in
MacMap.pm?

Again, thank you very much
Gabriel
