the files under /tftpboot are the boot files. they are created from mknb,
and nodeset/rinstall, you can back up them as reference and don't need to
restore.

Actually, a follow-up question.

the backup document states that we should backup /tftpboot directory.  But
the restore document does not have any mention on restoring /tftpboot
directory.  Actually, that was one of my original questions.  Can you help
answer this?

thanks

   Right, follow the Migration link,

   to backup/restore the MN.

xCAT also introduce xcat-inventory to do the source control, you can
   check here: https://github.com/xcat2/xcat-inventory
   https://xcat-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/advanced/xcat-inventory/index.html

This will work. `makedhcp -n` will add this network to the dhcpd.conf.

I assume I can set up another network in the networks table,
create a virtual interface in the MN with that vlan

               Hello everyone,

It has been a while I have asked questions in the forum,
               hope you all are well.

Got a couple of questions, would greatly appreciate if you
can help out with all your collective wisdom.

               question #1
We have xcat version 2.15 MN running on centOS 7.7, and I am
looking into backup/restore of the setup. Currently I am
only using /opt/xcat/sbin/dumpxCATdb to backup the database.
I also backup the /install directory of the system. If there
anything else I should be backing up in the system? How
about /tftpboot , all the DNS information? In case of a
total system failure ( of the MN ) , I am thinking about how
to bring the system back to its original working state.

Also, what is the recommended method of restoring a system
like this? I would guess - a. build the OS b. install base
xcat rpms c. restore DB backup d. may be restore /tftpboot
               e. restore /install directory ?

               question #2
So, we currently have a single network defined to build
systems in the MN. I need to be able to build systems from
another network. How does one get to do this? I assume I can
set up another network in the networks table, create a
virtual interface in the MN with that vlan, assign a DHCP
scope and do makedhcp? Would that work? Or do I need to do
               anything else?

Any help/reference/guidance is very helpful and appreciated.

               thanks
