At least Centos stream 8 should be relatively straightforward, though a breaking change could come along whenever, so it's hard to say 'you definitely won't have an issue'.
I hope that Stream 9 when it comes along will make it easier to be prepared in a timely manner for RHEL 9 (and whichever clones exist). Looks like CentOS Streaming should not be an issue with the future releases of xCat. -Sajesh- From: Jarrod Johnson <jjohns...@lenovo.com<mailto:jjohns...@lenovo.com>> Sent: Tuesday, January 5, 2021 2:11 PM To: xCAT Users Mailing list <xcat-user@lists.sourceforge.net<mailto:xcat-user@lists.sourceforge.net>> Subject: Re: [xcat-user] [External] Re: xCAT and CentOS 8 Streaming EXTERNAL SENDER For reference, the next confluent release will include CentOS stream and Oracle Linux (the Oracle Linux was going to happen anyway, but it has more potential relevance now). I currently have a CentOS stream management node, and current centos stream will pick up as 'centos-stream-8.4' since stream is currently effectively a preview-8.4. ________________________________ From: Nathan A Besaw <bes...@us.ibm.com<mailto:bes...@us.ibm.com>> Sent: Tuesday, January 5, 2021 2:01 PM To: xCAT Users Mailing list <xcat-user@lists.sourceforge.net<mailto:xcat-user@lists.sourceforge.net>> Subject: [External] Re: [xcat-user] xCAT and CentOS 8 Streaming SS, Prior to the announcement of CentOS Linux changing to CentOS Stream, the xCAT core team tested primarily with RHEL with minimal testing with CentOS. In most cases, any work needed to enable a release of RHEL would allow the associated CentOS release to function with minimal extra effort. The xCAT core team will continue to focus our testing efforts on xCAT integration with RHEL, but now that the release order of RHEL and CentOS is reversed, it is more likely that xCAT users of CentOS Stream will encounter problems first, before they have been addressed during RHEL testing. This is an area where the xCAT core team can use help from the xCAT community going forward. If support for CentOS Stream is of interest to the xCAT community, hopefully the community will be able to assist in resolving issues related to CentOS Stream. Ideally xCAT will continue to informally support CentOS Stream, but how well it is supported will be determined by community involvement and how large the gap is between CentOS Stream and RHEL.
