Rick, I have noticed that this happens when ever I have switched networks.
Example: In Starbucks on WiFi. Simulator starts and works fine. Then I close the MacBook Pro and head home. Open MacBook Pro back up at home. It connects to my home WiFi. The simulator has lost it’s connection and only works after I restart it. Is this the scenario where this is happening to you?
