What is the name of the switch in the preferences that we uncheck to turn this
off?

I went to the preferences pane that Joar mentioned, but I couldn't determine
which control we use to disable this feature.

I'd like to know what the name of the thing is that we need to check or uncheck.

It's not obvious on my screen.
