Thanks to everybody who chimed in!

The discussion was an interesting read. 

I’ve implemented and successfully tested a solution based on NSClassFromString 
but I understand that if I move my deployment target to 10.7 and above I can go 
back to doing it the old way (system version or checking if the class object is 
non nil).
