Thanks for the feedback.

It appears I have many 100s of GB of free space on my hard drive, so it doesn’t 
appear to be low disk space.

Given the general whackiness of this problem, and the fact that I appear to be 
an isolated incident, I decided to go the route of reinstalling a new Xcode, 
and if that doesn’t help, a new system. Something fun to do over the holidays.
