I’m sorry Jens if I sounded too hostile. To be more positive about it, I think the basic problem with the find option in XCode is that unless you want to do exactly as you describe it is generally cumbersome and I think the route cause of the problem is the lack of a “advanced find” facility. You are right, the “jumping” way of doing things is quicker in a lot of cases, but having to click a few times to change the settings is definitely not an optimum UI in the context of a text editor inside XCode.
I’m thinking back to CodeWarrior now, it had two modes, a quick find mode which behaved pretty much as you want and a more advanced find mode which was really easy to use when you have tricky editing to do. I really find it hard to understand why this was removed when we “upgraded” from XCode 3. I haven’t used it for a while, but I think that except for the “jumping” facility it pretty much did that?
